Out of This World is an accordion book made from photographic images combined with chemograms in the darkroom. I chose this format because I wanted the viewer to be able to see the images individually and all together at once to create a continuous nightscape. On the backside of the book, there are eight planets plus the sun. These images were produced by NASA and taken from their website. The spacing between planets is meant to represent the distance between them in space. The black background is to show the black void of space. The chemograms I produced in the darkroom. I wanted to recreate fictional nightscapes with unnatural materials. I used plastic, tape, glass, and chemicals to create a variety of chemograms. The covers are handmade paper pasted on book board. The handmade paper is colorful and resembles the galaxy. By putting on a hardcover it gives a more finished look. I chose the trim size so that the viewer can see the details of the images easily and it is about the original size of the prints. The title speaks to the alienesque landscapes as well as the fact that the planets are shown.
